Premier Mountain Biking

Outdoors

The mountain biking community in Burns Lake is well organized and highly active, which makes for excellent, accessible, and easy to navigate riding trails. The main mountain biking area is the Boer Mountain Recreation Site – over 4000 hectares of Crown land – just a few minutes’ drive north of town. The area features a campground on Kager Lake, the “hub” for approximately 30 km of downhill and 60 km of cross-country trails. Beginner to intermediate riders will enjoy the trails around Kager Lake. Advanced riders wishing to challenge their abilities may choose from many advanced options including the 18 km machine built allmountain trail Razorback which runs from the Bike Park to the top of Boer Mountain. From the top there are a variety of descent options: the 10 km Pigasus down country trail; black diamonds Full Boer or Shawn’s Flow; blue runs Charlotte’s Web and the signature Gravity Logic built When Pigs Fly; all of which culminate in a spectacular 2000+ square foot wall ride – the Pierce Hofer Memorial – that sits adjacent to the Kager Lake parking lot.

Kager Lake also features 12 picturesque walk-in camping/picnicking sites, seven car-camping sites and a beginner-level skills park next to the campground. The park’s well-marked routes twist around a wetland area, several streams, and a number of small lakes. The Bike Park includes a variety of cross-country and downhill trails, with difficulty levels ranging from beginner to advanced. Various trails include fun and challenging features such as jumps, drops, wall rides boardwalks, and a Four Cross track. The recreation site and Bike Park are managed by the local bike club – RideBurns. RideBurns event calendar kicks off in May with Bike Camp, followed by an instructor workshop, and then Babes in Balance, a women’s weekend mountain biking and wellness retreat, and the Annual Big Pig Mountain Biking Festival in the fall.  Move into fat bike season with January Quest and Freezer Burnt.
