Skins Spillway Recreation Site

Season: Summer, Winter | Activity: Camping, Fishing, Rec Sites, Rock Hunting
If you are looking for either a great place to camp or just a fantastic place to take a picnic on a nice day, you should plan a visit to the Skins Spillway Recreation Site. The drive out there is beautiful and then once you get there, you are right there on Ootsa Lake where you can stay for absolutely free! The campground is well taken care of by Alcan and when the Spillway is open it is quite a sight to see. Spend a few days relaxing or use this spot as a base to head out on Ootsa Lake to fish for rainbow or lake trout. The pebble beaches surrounding this rec site are home to agate, jasper, obsidian, chalcedony, quartz, calcite, and petrified wood, making this an excellent destination for rock hunters as well!

Directions: Once exiting the Francois Lake ferry, drive straight up the hill on Keefe’s Landing Road following the signs to Takaysie Lake Resort, 23 kms. Continue traveling south on the Eakin Settlement Road, until the East Ootsa Road. Turn left on the East Ootsa Road and drive 2 km to the turnoff to the rec site just before the Spillway.
